Quick answer
Use this 2026 California paycheck calculator to estimate one paycheck's take-home pay from federal withholding, Social Security, Medicare, California PIT, and State Disability Insurance. California PIT uses the EDD Method B exact calculation path, while 2026 State Plan SDI is 1.3% when selected. DE 4 elections stay separate from the federal W-4, and results show official sources, assumptions, and unsupported employer-specific deductions.
How the California estimate works
Enter gross pay for one pay period, federal W-4 adjustments, and the state details shown above. Federal withholding follows Publication 15-T. California PIT uses the annualized exact-calculation path in EDD Method B, then returns the result to the selected pay period. State Plan SDI is applied separately only when the employee indicates that it applies.
Example: For a biweekly entry, the federal and California annualized methods use 26 pay periods. DE 4 elections remain separate from the federal W-4. The calculator does not assume any unentered benefit deduction or invent a tax result.
Weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, and monthly are the supported paycheck frequencies. “Annual salary” is an earnings input and the annual view is a simple period multiplication; neither is an annual payroll-period method. The special Form W-4 adjustment for nonresident aliens is not modeled.
